Rio claim the 2016 Olympics!

It’s been a long long day and the International Olympic Committee have finally reached their decision.

Rio de Janeiro have become the first South American city to host the Olympics. They beat runners up Madrid to win the 2016 Olympics.

There are no runner up prizes. Rio claim all the glory. The scenes in Rio de Janeiro are fantastic. They know how to party and chances are they’ll be celebrating tonight.

They are hosting the two biggest sporting events just two years apart with the 2014 World Cup also being held there.

When they first entered not many people gave them the chance. After time they gradually won over the hearts and minds of the members of the IOC.

Remember that when bidding for the 2012 Olympics they didn’t even make the final four which just shows the progress they have made over the last few years.

Chicago were the first city of the final four to be knocked out despite the fact that Obama spoke to the IOC to try and pursuade them to give the Olympics to his home town.

They’ve been criticized for the lack of hotel space but they are hoping to fix that by housing cruise ships in the habours.

They’ve been told that crime is a problem but they have addressed the problem and it appears the IOC believe they can fix the problem.
