Simply amazing.
What you can see in the video are ste leaders. They propagate towards the earth in stages, which do no have to result in a straight line o the earth. The air does not ionize equally in every direction due to impurities in the air such as dust. The step leader will try and take the fastest route.
The first lead to reach the earth maps out the course that the main strike will follow. This main strike is the sudden, massive, flow of electrical current moving from the cloud to the ground.
